Inspire and Create

My dream is to one day have some of my books in the hands of a child.

I have created a number of Picture Book manuscripts, many have been polished and some are incubating like the glorious clutch of guinea fowl eggs above.

Most are inspired by my rural surroundings and my love of the land. I am not an illustrator but I have an archive of images, mainly my own photographs, that have led me to discover the magic of words that form a story.

Our kelpie features in some, like ‘The Deaf Dog’, which also involves a steep hill and a crash;  my Issa Brown chickens play a role as do the noisy guinea fowl in ‘Gus the Guinea Fowl.’As we have a large herd of cattle, there is endless inspiration and thus was created ‘Kevin the Calf’ who gets stuck in the hollow of a tree.

The last year has been tough on the farm, coping with a relentless drought, and from some magnetic words courtesy of Jen Storer’s Scribblers group, I have written a tale of the impact of the dry and a little bit of magic that occurs.

My yard is visited by many creatures, roos and wallabies, echidnas, brown and black snakes and of course a multitude of birds, like the willy wagtails that build a new nest each year under the eaves.

So my inspiration is unlimited and it only remains for my imagination to be set free.
