Freelance Journalism

I became a freelance journalist by accident when a friend persuaded me to join her in another online course run by The Australian Writers Centre, on Magazine Writing. I had previously had some stories published in the Sydney Morning Herald but at other times my pitches had resulted in nothing. The course taught me how to pitch and gave insider knowledge about the world of the editor and magazines.

Since then I have had 3 stories published in RM Williams Outback magazine, 6 stories in Country Living, 10 in New England Home and Lifestyle and 1 in Central West Lifestyle. The topics have ranged from stories about artists, writers, trucking companies, regional theatres, men’s sheds and yoga in the country. I have also begun taking my own photos to accompany the articles.

In the latest edition of New England Living I have a story about Little Pink Dog Books and Kathy and Peter Creamer, as well as a story about the launch of a new Hunter Tartan.
