Giant wombats

I belong to a book club that celebrated its 50 anniversary a few years ago.

We travel far and wide for monthly meetings, across mountains and plains.

One of my longer journeys is to a little town called Tambar Springs, about 180 kms away. Population about 500.

Its claim to fame is the fact that a skeleton of an ancient marsupial was found here in the 80s, a giant wombat called a Diprodoton. It features on the sign in town. One of my fellow book clubbers, Roz Warden, played a part in setting up the signage.

In my local library in Scone I found a Picture Book by the wonderful Jackie French with giant illustrations by Bruce Whatley.

It is called ‘Dippy’s Big Day Out’, and features this huge prehistoric animal.
